Next IQA conference

At the last executive committee of the IQA held in Prague September 2008, the board agreed that the 6th conference of the International CoQ10 Association will be held in Brussels instead of Sydney, Australia as previously decided. The date will be May 27-30, 2010.

Research grants

The IQA supports innovative research on CoQ10. The annual date for submission of proposals is December 1st (for further details see http://www.icqa.org/ICQA/CoQ10grants.html).

Experts in the field evaluate proposals, and the project with the highest score is usually awarded a grant.

The successful applicant of the last round of research grants is Dr. Iain Hargreaves with his proposal An assessment and comparison of coenzyme Q10, idebenone and MitoQ10 treatment upon mitochondrial energy metabolism and oxidative stress generation in mitochondrial electron chain transport.

New Biofactors issue dedicated to CoQ10 articles.

IOS press is going to publish Volume 32

Numbers 1-4 of Biofactors, 2008. This volume of BioFactors contains peer-refereed original papers and reviews presented at the 5th conference of the International Coenzyme Q10 Association, held in Kobe, Japan, November 9-12 2007. It covers many of the biochemical and biomedical issues currently explored in CoQ research throughout the world. I hope this volume which includes such a wide variety of articles dealing with CoQ10 involvement in many different fields, will interest many readers. Some of the biochemical data dealing with the basic aspects of coenzyme Q will hopefully lead us to better understand its clinical effects. On the other hand, some of the clinical data might shed a new light on CoQ10 properties.
