From the Chairman
This is the first newsletter of the International CoQ10 Association (IQA) and will lay the foundation for future periodical reports on the activity of the IQA and on novel CoQ10 findings and appraisals.
The 5th international CoQ10 conference, held in Kobe Japan in November 2007 highlighted the latest CoQ10 research activities; a more detailed description is given below.
The recent literature from which I selected a restricted number of representative articles evidences the wide variety of fields in which CoQ10 efficacy is tested. Some of these issues have already been addressed in the past but are now more deeply investigated using new methods and approaches. Other studies represent completely new fields.
Growing knowledge on CoQ10 solves some problems and at the same time raises doubts about other fundamental aspects. This stimulates a constructive and lively debate, which is destined to shed further light on the biochemical mechanisms involved in the actions of CoQ10.
CoQ10 consumers may not be aware of these scientific details but they should at least be informed that there is sound research behind what is seen as a useful food supplement.
The IQA is deeply involved in all the above issues: its commitment to research is one of its main goals and, at the same time, it is constantly in contact with those who produce CoQ10 and those who use it.
I must express my deep gratitude to the numerous companies, which so generously sustain the Association. It is their support that makes many of the studies possible and that significantly contributes to a deeper knowledge of CoQ10 itself.
